Cloudy Bay Pinot Noir 2007

Undoubtedly the finest Pinot Noir to come out of this icon NZ winery, but that’s typical of Cloudy Bay, all of their wines are work in progress, they’ll never stop pushing the viticulture/winemaking boundaries in pursuit of perfection. Arising from the glass are a collection of floral, sweet plum, cherry, spicy/smoky oak, ripe tamarillo and a hint of truffle oil which is enough to ramp up your taste buds in anticipation. Perfectly balanced the lengthy evolution of concentrated plum/cherry with gently tart raspberry edges folds into an amalgam of spice, milk chocolate, coffee bean, tamarillo and mushroom nestled among brambly/spicy oak notes. This will be a keeper and develop further complexity through 2015-18 but is easily the most moreish Pinot Noir I have yet tasted from Cloudy Bay so early enjoyment should not be frowned upon.
