Shiraz wine is Australia’s unique manifestation of the Syrah grape originally from the Rhone Valley in France. Australia’s Barossa Valley region is famous for its rich, spicy, smooth tannined Shiraz. Conversely the best NZ Syrah emanates from the Hawke’s Bay and has defined spice and savoury characters underpinning its finer structure and elegant fruit. Traits more common to the great Hermitage of the Rhone Valley than Australia’s Shiraz wine.
