Founded in 1893. Wirra Wirra was taken over by the late Greg Trott in the 1960s who transformed them into one of Australia’s genuinely iconic wineries. As the story goes, one dream eluded Greg in his time at Wirra Wirra. He wished to build a catapult to pelt his neighbouring wineries with wine bottles, because why not? An eccentric man who made spectacular wine.

Greg's legacy is immortalised at Wirra Wirra in Catapult Shiraz; It must be benchmark quality… as it’s made with homage to the man who made them part of Aussie wine fokelore.

At our recent private client tasting hosted by Wirra Wirra General Manager and Master of Wine Matt Deller I was taken by the unique terroir characters of their single vineyard wines, across the board quality versus price, purity of flavours and impeccable balance in every red.

We tasted a vertical of 1998-2008-2019 vintages... the 1998 was 26-year aged Shiraz in impeccable condition... and was bottled back then under cork. Now under screwcap it could live 30-40+ years if you wished to and stored it properly.
