Sheep Dip Whisky

Description

We hear that sheep dip gets its name from when bootlegging farmers used to hide their illicit malts from the excise man by labelling the barrels 'Sheep Dip', which in those days contained arsenic. A brave correlation to make from a marketing point of view, comparing your malt to a poisonous chemical, but fortunately the whisky is the goods. Sheep Dip is a blended malt (or what used to be referred to as a vatted malt) - that is it's a blend of malt whiskies with no grain whisky component. Made by the highly respected Richard Paterson of Whyte & Mackay, supposedly it's a blend of 16 single malts between 8 and 16 years old, so the whisky has some serious maturity and gravitas on the palate. Some sherry cask-type complexity is very pleasing, the overall impression being a sweet and tropically accented malt (melons, pear and citrus) with pleasing almond, nutty, cereal notes through the creamy finish. Excellent drinking and a great gift for the farmer in your life.
