Description
Lovely to see producers aging their wines prior to release, this collaboration between viticulturalist guru Bob Newton and John Forrest always a highlight of our tasting calendar. Something of a cult wine in that it's a well kept secret among wine lovers, this 2015 is a beautifully complete wine, showing off the cooler, damper vintage in a classically Bordeaux-styled package that shows off lots of fruit, savoury, cedary goodness and length to burn. Surprisingly ripe Cabernet-led expression, it also has Merlot and Malbec playing back up.
Smells
A classic Cabernet led bouquet of cassis, currants, cedar, summer plums and violet florals.
Tastes
Juicy, vibrant and still very youthful at 4 years of age, it has a solid tannic structure to go with an array of black and red fruits, the finish elegant and lingering. Best from 2020, or enjoy now with 2 hours in the decanter, this is a classic vintage of a classic wine of New Zealand... Take your opportunity and stock up!
