Description

Is there any wine in New Zealand that would more consistently confuse the world's top Bordeaux experts than Puriri Hills Reserve? Designed to mimic the great Right Bank wines of Saint Emilion and Pomerol, the 2009 Reserve is a doppelganger with its blend of 46% Merlot, 27% Cabernet Franc, 20% Carmenere and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon. Now at 11 years of age, it is now drinking exceptionally well, showing full complexity, generosity of palate and a harmony that few (if any) New Zealand reds can match. An exceptional wine that will continue to get better up to 2024. Treat yourself.

Smells

Incredibly floral and complex nose of blueberry, cherry, spice, and violets with a truffle earthiness emerging.

Tastes

The wines has a delicate power, so smooth and intriguing yet rich and sumptuous. The primary fruit is still there but tempered as leather and truffle characters begin to steal the show. Ever so fine tannin unite with softening acidity to create a very agreeable mouthfeel. Enjoy now with eye fillet and Bearnaise sauce or a mushroom Wellington.

We taste, rate & guarantee every wine we sell.
