Description

The harvest in Piedmont starts with Dolcetto and are typically made into fruity wines intended for early drinking that have moderately low tannins and acids, well at least for Italian standards, where most red varieties are high in tannin and acid. Dolcetto wines give you something to drink whilst you are waiting for the Nebbiolo based wines to age, those Italians think of everything….

Smells

red fruit aromas positively leap from the glass, wild raspberries, cranberries and red liquorice straps, underpinned by rose petal notes and an array of brown cooking spices.

Tastes

a little more focused on the palate than many Dolcetto’s where those same red berry fruit flavours persist with a long, linear finish with slightly chewy cheek hugging tannins suggesting this is a Dolcetto that will age for 4-5 years or more. There is an interesting complexing note suggestive of cured, salty meats making this wine the perfect partner for such cuisine, included mature, oozy cheeses. My tastes buds are salivating at the mere thought…..
