Description

A rarity that's sought after by Champagne connoisseurs, Cote Aux Enfants is Grand Cru Pinot Noir from Ay in Champagne, made as a still red wine under the Coteaux Champenois appellation. From a tiny 4ha vineyard, the wine is aged for 8 months in small oak barrels. A firmly structured wine with lots of exotic, spicy flavours including liquorice, cherry, elderberry, redcurrant and thyme, this is a collector's item only imported into NZ in tiny quantities. The origin of the name Cote aux Enfants (the children's hillside) is uncertain, with some saying that only children were agile enough to work the steep slope, while others say it was actually Cote Aux Enfers (the slope from hell)... Either way, Bollinger's sole still red wine is a thrilling and individual expression of Pinot Noir, known by some as the Romanee Conti of Champagne.
