2013 Martinborough Vineyard Marie Zelie Pinot Noir Magnum

NZ's answer to Grand Cru Burgundy - spectacular!

Description

Heralded as the finest Marie Zelie yet, now we've tasted it, we can emphatically confirm. From the drought-stricken 2013 vintage, the warm days and cool nights produced a vintage winemaker Paul Mason regards as the benchmark to date. A selection of the oldest vines in the vineyard and the finest barrels, only just over 1300 bottles were made. A collector's item with at least 20 years development in front of it, it's a new benchmark for this New Zealand icon.

Smells

Martinborough Pinot distilled to its purest form - smoky spices, red cherry fruit, dusky florals and hints of truffle.

Tastes

Succulent and lavishly fruited, but in no way heavy, this is elegant power and persistence vinified. Silky, supple, fine-grained tannins frame a core of densely concentrated fruit, already harmonious and enjoyable in its youth, but with a sense of confidence like all the great wines possess. Unquestionably the finest Marie Zelie yet, this is a wine just waiting for a special occasion - and it'll be ready when you are.
