Description
A Euphonium has nothing to do with wine. It is a large brass wind instrument that played a key role in Keyneton’s early history as a musical hub, being used by the Henschke Family Brass Band. It has since been restored and takes pride of place in their family home. As good a name as any for this wine, one of Australia's most iconic and consistent.
Smells
The nose is rife with red berries and herbs. Hints of cracked black pepper and liquorice.
Tastes
The palate expands on the nose, red currants and plums, rosemary and thyme, more black pepper. The structure is amazing, such fine tannin and clean acidity. Length goes for days. While beautifully primary now, I would love to see it evolve and sure it would do so until 2031 with careful cellaring. Drink with an aged cheddar or stilton.
