Description
5 stars by James Halliday is a good sign and after one sip and I can see why. If you love NZ Syrah this is worth a try, showing freshness, vibrant red fruits and white pepper notes more typical of Hawkes Bay but with hints of McLaren Vale complexity, earthy and tarry notes. The palate exhibits that same cross-over Aussie/NZ combo with a rich concentrated palate balanced by acidity and an interesting array of fruits rather than dominated by over-ripe or stewed fruit.
Smells
Red and dark fruits, coffee grinds, mocha hints giving way to cedar, spice, tar and an earthy vein. Eucalypt free, another bonus.
Tastes
The balance on the palate is impeccable, rich, concentrated yet showing vibrancy and poise with a long, salivating finish where the acid cuts the rich, textured mouthfeel. Wild berry, Doris plums and milk chocolate flavours abound with chalky yet silky tannins making for an impressive impression in the mouth. This is the perfect BBQ wine drinking well over the next 2-3 years. And I haven’t even mentioned the price and considering its sub $15, it really warrants buying a case….
