Description

Squawking Magpie’s latest releases have made a mighty impact recently, this Grand Gimblett Cabernet Sauvignon was awarded 96pts Andrew Caillard (MW), 96pts Cameron Douglas, 5stars Michael Cooper, 19/20 Raymond Chan, oh and was 1 of 6 blends selected in, The 2018 Gimblett Gravels Annual Vintage Selection. I think this might be a sign, that it is nothing short of stunning and we completely agree with all the judges, it is superb and worth buying a few bottles, one to taste and the others to stash away in the cellar for a rainy day, or dear I say it, another lockdown!!!! Hopefully not…..

Smells

a heady perfume of blackcurrant leaf, red and dark plums, a warm, toasted dark spice thread, with savoury, cedar and nutty nuances

Tastes

mouth filling, supple, juicy, and yet finely structured are descriptives that spring to mind. There is a wonderful density of fruit in the mid-palate, with blackberry, fresh tobacco leaves, hints of a floral lift, coffee, olives, vanilla, and wood smoke flavours. A very youthful wine right now, showing great concentration, in a taut style with salivating, chalky tannins and a crisp acid thread. The finish is long and luxurious and really will cellar well. The question is, can you resist? If you cannot, decant and hour prior to serving, drinking well through 2033.

We taste, rate & guarantee every wine we sell.
