Description

A real return to form for this label, not least due to the exceptional vintage, Larry McKenna's Escarpment Chardonnay 2014 is a stylish, flinty and very French style of wine, with a long, mealy, nutty finish. Much more ambitious and structured than most New Zealand Chardonnays, with some tannic grip hitting the mid-palate and teasing out the long, citrus-filled finish, it's a classic and refined Chardonnay from one of this country's true masters.

Smells

A hint of flinty, mineral complexity, with grapefruit, lemon, marzipan and white peach.

Tastes

Nutty, mealy and elegant, there's loads of fruit weight on the mid-palate, giving way to oatmeal biscuits and creamy mealiness on the long, citrusy, nuanced finish. A wine for foodies, this is at its best now and through 2020.
