Description

Champagne Masters is an annual London based Competition focused solely on the judging of Champagne. The impressive panel is made up of leading Masters of Wine and Master Sommeliers. Separated into style, NV, Vintage, and price categories… Gold, Sliver & Bronze Medals are awarded within each category. Gold Medal Champagnes are then tasted again to be put forward for the elite Masters Champagne award. A tiny 18 of those were awarded. Champagne Gardet Millésime Extra Brut 2013, one of just 2 Masters winners in the £30-£50 pounds category. A blend of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, like all Gardet Champagnes this exciting 2013 vintage Millésime Extra Brut has spent considerably longer aging on lees in the bottle. In this instance 9-years… six times the minimum Champagne Appellation law requirement of 18-months. 9-years has created extra body and very fine bubbles that beautifully carry the deliciously dry Extra Brut 4-grams of residual sweetness. To bring some perspective, Brut Champagnes like Moet & Veuve are circa 9-10 grams residual. This is extraordinarily complex, captivating, dry Vintage Champagne with considerable finesse… yet so modestly priced. In a perfect drinking place now… no need to age for any length of time.

Smells

Gorgeous aromas of biscuit, nougat, almond, berries, baked apple pie.

Tastes

Distinct tastes and sensations of nougat, cream, and berries, with delicate fresh red apple lifting the biscuity, almond infused finish. Highly complex but hugely delicious and refreshing. At its best now through 2024. Fabulous with oysters natural, alternatively with fatty seafood and roast pork or poultry dishes… and simply delicious to enjoy lost dinner.

We taste, rate & guarantee every wine we sell.

A cut above the NV, lovely almost biscuit dough undertones. We paired with melon, and it was fantastic.
