Description
Unison Vineyard is the only NZ winery included in Jancis Robinson’s list of 28 up-and-coming producers in the world, "… whose success seems most obvious to me at the beginning of the 21st century …" (Jancis Robinson, Concise Wine Companion). Unison is a red specialist making wines off a wonderful six-hectare plot of Gimblett Gravels terroir planted with Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Great attention to detail was paid in the vineyard, with high plant density and deliberate low yields per vine enabling the growing of consistently fully-ripened and healthy grapes every year. Rocky Red is a delicious blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon from 2017 vintage, basket pressed and aged in fine French oak... it hugely over-delivers on quality, taste and style vs price.
Smells
Dark berry fruits, brooding oak, nutmeg, dried herbs and chocolate.
Tastes
Classic plum and dark berry fruit of surprising generosity, unravels on the palate tinged with cedar oak, nutmeg, dusty chocolate and dried herbs. The creamy texture and mouth-coating tannins add composure and feel, the finish is juicy and long. Enjoy through 2028
