Description
One of an incredible 28 varieties planted at Hans Herzog wine estate, Montepulciano has been one of Hans' most successful red grapes to date. 100% Marlborough Montepulciano was handpicked and fermented with wild yeasts before ageing in French oak for 30 months. Bottled directly from barrel without fining or filtering… The 2018 vintage release is very classically styled with serious structure and excellent concentration.
Smells
Hints of coffee, leather, liquorice and plum.
Tastes
Intensely flavoured and intensely structure with an abundance of stern 'Italian'-style tannins. A great wine for now but one that will age well too. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. Drink now to 2026+ and perfect with roasted red meats, hearty stews or pasta.
