Block 88 showcases what Marlborough can bring to the table in terms of Pinot Noir... in this case not only in quality... but magnificent (some might say outrageous) value. A big, muscular and brooding style of Pinot Noir which is atypically Auntsfield style as they always retain the more elegant, prettier and finer barrels of the Estate production for their $50 Estate release. They declassify the more opulent barrels that do not fit the Estate style into this mighty Block 88 release... it's beautifully silky, opulent and very harmonious. We buy direct from Auntsfield and have NZ exclusivity to Block 88 so our price is exceptional. Buy it by the case and keep a few bottles back... there's at least 5-6 years good drinking in this beautiful 2020 release!
Smells
Deep and beautifully rendered nose of red and black fruits, with exotic spices, mulberry and cedar.
Tastes
Opulent and very charming palate with superb fruit weight and silky mouthfeel, bursting with fresh cherries, boysenberries and spice. An array of spices, cedary oak and subtle savoury notes reveal themselves in the lengthy finish. Block 88 always appeals to fuller style Pinot drinkers. Drink with lamb, five spice duck breast and gamey dishes between now and 2026.
