Description
A few years back, Guy McMasters took over winemaking for Palliser Estate from Allan Johnson. After several vintages at Palliser now it’s clear that Guy is following in Allan’s footsteps whilst carving his own stamp. True to house style it is a beautifully elegant wine, a veritable Martinborough icon that has a gentle poise and is full of femininity in its youth. As ever, this is one of New Zealand's greatest and most reliable Pinot Noirs, Palliser Estate deserves a place in your cellar, though is amazingly approachable right now.
Smells
Cherry and dried thyme with floral and smoky notes competing to outdo each other.
Tastes
Fine and savoury on the palate, dark cherry, spice, and dried herbs, with fine tea leaf tannin that lends a supple, silky mouthfeel. The wine finishes with crisp acidity and a long length. It is drinking superbly now but will continue to develop up until 2028. Enjoy with Chinese roast duck.
