Description

Originally a pastoral run dating back to 1839, and originally named Wolta Wolta, Jim Barry purchased the land for The Lodge Hill Vineyard in 1977 as he was sure it would “produce some of the best Riesling in the Clare Valley.” Situated at 480 meters above sea level and situated on the Eastern Ranges of the Clare Valley, the grapes at our Lodge Hill Vineyard are exposed to concentrated bursts of sunlight and cool nights which encourage slower ripening. This helps deliver beautiful natural acidity and citrus characters that ripen early because of the small crop it produces. And this 2011 Library release demonstrates why we should cellar such top-quality wines.

Smells

the nose is still perfumed with a purity of florals, lemon and lime with hints of orange marmalade, honey and still the mineral, flinty, wet stone characters of this wine in its youth.

Tastes

even though it’s been 13 years in the bottle, the colour is still a brilliant pale straw. The palate is lively, zesty, crunchy and with a mouth filling quality that age brings, a creamy mid-palate, a harmony of fruit and acid and the orange peel, grapefruit marmalade and honeysuckle flavours due to time. A seamless wine from go to whoa, and it will still age a further 5 years+. Serve with fresh oysters.

We taste, rate & guarantee every wine we sell.
