Description
Planted in 1969, Moss Wood is an important, founding estate of the Margaret River wine region, located in the northern sub-region of Wilyabrup, Western Australia. Clare & Keith Mugford, as winemakers, viticulturalists & proprietors, have been making wine & tending the vineyard at Moss Wood since 1984 & 1979, respectively. Their exacting viticulture ensures the production of grapes of excellent quality & they have created a stable of fine wines distinguished by their consistency over each vintage & their ability to age superbly. Western Australia, an extremely unique region and renowned for its Bordeaux look-alike wines and certainly Moss Wood produce the highest quality wines often likened to many Growth wines of Bordeaux, the crème de la crème of this area and even Australia.
Smells
An exuberant bouquet of warm blackcurrants, fresh tobacco leaves, coffee grinds, fresh liquorice root, spice, and delicious, tasty vanilla oak
Tastes
Captivating, showing Western Australia in its true light, savoury, earthy complexity and with a strong resemblance to Bordeaux, completely juxtaposed to the rest of Australia. Delicious flavours sandalwood, cigar box, with unctuous fruit. A very stylish Cabernet with silky, smooth, and well-structured tannins, giving an excellent framework balanced by seamless acid and just a hint of Aussie mint. Superb drinking now but will cellar well for 12-15years+. For optimal drinking pleasure, the recommended serving temperature is 16-18 degrees.
