Description

This organic Pinot Noir from Villa Maria’s Attorney Vineyard in Marlborough's Southern Valleys is a special library release. Planted in 2002, these north-facing vines on the dry eastern foothills of the Wairau Valley thrive in deep clay soils, perfect for organic farming. The cooler 2017 growing season produced a superb wine with great aging potential, justifying its library release. Spring's cooler weather extended the flowering season, resulting in looser, smaller bunches. A mild summer with cooler breezes and light clouds, followed by intermittent autumn rains, required flexible harvest plans for optimal ripeness. The vineyard's thick-skinned, small-berried grapes create a dark, bold tannin structure, crafting a wine built to last.

Smells

Dark, spicy, and alluring with notes of plums, cherries, bramble, nutmeg, and liquorice.

Tastes

Rich and velvety, with layers of spicy cherry fruits and a long, enduring finish. The wine is very layered and nuanced, becoming more so with time exposed to air. Full of spicy cherry fruits, the finish goes on and on. Built for the long haul but very enjoyable now and will continue to cellar for another 4-5years+. The recommended serving temperature is 13-15 degrees.
