Description
2023 Sacred Hill Reserve Chardonnay is even more concentrated and Butterier than usual. Crafted by 10 x NZ Winemaker of the Year, Nick Picone… it was the recipient of a large parcel of fruit off the famed Rifleman’s vineyard. More new French oak, plenty of malolactic fermentation + lots of lees stirring in barrel… this 2023 Reserve is richer, more concentrated and butterier. Without question Nick is a NZ winemaking Star! This 2023 Sacred Hill Reserve Chardonnay is benchmark drinking at its price… “Reserve” quality of a level well above expectation at the money. This deliciously buttery and concentrated 2023 will drink superbly through 2028.
Smells
Seductive and engaging aromas of buttered popcorn, golden peach, pink grapefruit, toasted sourdough & vanilla oak.
Tastes
A wonderful drinking Chardonnay with layers of fruit complexity… peach, nectarine, red apples, hints of pear. Throw in vanilla and spice oak complexities with excellent all-round winemaking… and seductive mouthfeel. Extended lees aging and stirring brings delicious buttery richness with rounded tastes of pink grapefruit emerging in the perfect acid balance. Delicious drinking now through 2028 - perfect with roasted white meats, crispy pork belly and crayfish… save a glass or two for after dinner.
