June 17 Tuesday
The Hotel d'Europe had been an outstanding place to stay with generous well-appointed rooms, friendly instant service when required and is perfectly located inside the city walls. As our coach was not departing until 11.20am for Marseille airport everyone made best use of their time for last minute shopping or sightseeing and in my case the chance to catch up on my French tour blog.
As usual Herve had us running well ahead of schedule so there was no panic when we arrived at Marseille airport to catch our flight to Bordeaux. I thanked Herve on behalf of the group for his smooth/safe and timely driving over the previous 8-days and passed over to him a nice gratuity Virginia had gathered from everyone who gave enthusiastically. Two hours later we were winging our way to Bordeaux to meet up with our new coach and driver Nicolas who was to deliver us safely to the Le Relais de Margaux, our home for the next three nights. After freshening we met in the restaurant for a Champagne followed by a pleasant dinner accompanied by a couple of local wines, It was not a late night as the travelling was quite tiring and we were all looking forward to finding our pillows.
