After four superbly warm, dry and sunny days of sightseeing, shopping, wining and dining in San Francisco (Virginia and me I'm referring to and could spend a lot more time here - will come back, great city) our group came together (been drifting in over 4-days, some just arrived this day) for a gorgeous opening tour dinner in a private room at the Slanted Door Restaurant in the Ferry Building on the Embarcadero (waterfront drive), just a 5-minute stroll from the Hotel Vitale where we were staying.
Virginia and I had dropped in a day earlier and settled on four wines… a Premier Cru French Champagne, a white Burgundy Pernand-Vergelesses and two stylistically different Pinot Noir from the hills in Santa Cruz, the wines were superb and the progressive matches with our food perfect. The Sommelier (Cody) was very knowledgeable and enjoyed interacting with a group that clearly appreciated their wines and knew a bit about them. With the food, we trusted the chef and what a great decision! Vietnamese fusion inspired cuisine, it was all so beautifully fresh with tasty (largely delicate) sauces and ranged from seafood to spring rolls, pork, beef, chicken and fresh greens, all so incredibly tasty with fine flavours. Simply stunning, a must go if you're in San Francisco. Arriving for dinner at 5.30pm was perfect, as we were beautifully wined and dined and back at the hotel by 9.00pm for nightcap (more Champagne) and not too late to bed.
