Description
Originally made way back in 1986, Babich Irongate comes off some of the oldest vines on the Gimblett Gravels. The wine takes its name from the aquifer that runs some 25 metres below the vineyard and remains one of the most respected red wines in all of Hawke’s Bay.
Smells
Intriguing aromas showing cassis, plum, spice, chocolate, and leather.
Tastes
Rich and full-bodied yet maintaining a delicious freshness, savoury umami notes like soy and grilled meat are the perfect counterpoint to the generous dark fruit flavours. Fine, ripe tannins and the balance of a gymnast, all signs point to a long life in the cellar. Enjoy now but will be outstanding better between 2025 and 2032.
