Description
2020 was a generational vintage and this VM Reserve Cabernet Merlot with its basket of 95/100 ratings points to that. Get it in the glass and its generosity, structure, ripeness, and power are absolute confirmation. The beautifully warm 2020 vintage provided Cabernet and Merlot varietals superb conditions for ripening in the Gimblett Gravel’s. It meant the grapes were harvested earlier in excellent condition under welcome blue skies. This resulted in ripe, robust red wines with great ageing potential.
Smells
Red and black fruits waft from the glass with crushed herbs, cedar and spices lining up behind.
Tastes
Classic Cabernet flavours persist on the palate, blackcurrant, berries, and savoury dried herbs. Lovely ripe Merlot adds plum, spice and plushness to the mid palate while the overall wine remains composed with plenty of length. The fine grain tannins are salivating and interwoven throughout the rich core of fruit. Decant this beauty before serving and keep a few bottles to enjoy through 2030+.
