Description
If there’s better red wine value out there, we haven’t found it. Castaño’s Hécula Monastrell continues to fly the flag for old vine greatness from DO Yecla in southern Spain. This latest release is another bold statement—powerful yet poised, rich yet refreshingly drinkable. Bursting with dark fruit, liquorice, coffee and chocolate, it’s a plush, full-bodied red that punches well above its price tag. A must-have for fans of big reds with serious flavour and even more serious value.
Smells
Dark brooding aromas of plum, blackberry, raspberry, fruitcake, and liquorice.
Tastes
Rich and plummy with lots of satisfying grip, coffee, chocolate, pencil shavings and a fresh, tight finish. A serious bottle of red for a very frivolous price, this should be your BBQ meat go-to if you're a bargain hunter. The recommended serving temperature is 16-18 degrees.
