Description

Wine is very complicated and the mare fact of trying to understand what Cerasuolo even means, proves the point. Cerasuolo is a village in the Molise region of Italy, Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo, a DOC rosato (rosé) wine from Abruzzo, Italy. The name cerasuolo (light. 'Cherry-red') relates to the deep colour the wine obtains from even very brief skin-contact with the highly pigmented skins of the Montepulciano grapes. And then Cerasuolo di Vittoria, Sicily’s only DOCG from red grapes, can be a blend of Nero d’Avola from 50-70% and Frappato from 30-50%. Cos Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classico DOCG 2021 is a blend 40%, Nero d’Avola 60% where fermentation begins in concrete followed by ageing in Slavonian oak for 18 months, and then another year in bottle before it’s released.

Smells

perfumed aromas of red fruits, decaying roses, violets and hints of peony.

Tastes

On the palate it has generous sweet fruit yet showing a maturity, the result of making and the varieties themselves. A medium-bodied wine with a slightly tannic entrance, a velvety and supple mid-palate and a long and pleasant finish. This wine can go into the cellar, though can still be enjoyed now. It is smooth and delicate, pairing well with many Mediterranean dishes. The recommended serving temperature is 14-16 degrees.
