Description
Telmo Rodriguez is a bit of a Spanish wine rock star, who grew up in Rioja, where his family owns the famed Remelluri Estate. Telmo loves to work with native grapes, and biodynamic growing methods and seeks out old bush vines to express the diversity of this interesting wine country. This 100% Tempranillo from Toro DO, called Tinto de Toro produces full-bodied, tannic versions compared with Rioja. Dehesa Gago is an honest representation of the viticulture and vineyards of Spain’s most continental wine appellation.
Smells
Brooding aromas of sun-baked strawberries, bramble, red liquorice, baked red earth, fennel with hints of chocolate and spice.
Tastes
the big and brooding theme continues on the palate where broad-shouldered tannins encapsulate the fruit, giving structure whilst taming the fruit, a wonderful balance.Perhaps a more supple version compared with previous vintages that offer excellent drinking now but decanting just prior to serving would open and integrate the wine. A wine that will cellar for 4-5 years. The ideal partner for char-grilled fillet, one juicy morceau will complement the fruit/tannin combo, a match made in heaven.
