Description
Ivan Sutherland and James Healy were at the forefront of the new wave of Marlborough Pinot Noir - correct clones, hillside clay plantings at appropriate Grand Cru cropping rates and of course intensely hand-managed and handpicked. The results have been something special, channeling Marlborough's intensely floral and red fruit characters into what has become arguably one of Marlborough's finest Pinot Noir.
Smells
A heady perfume of fresh roses, violets, spice, cherry, undertones of a meaty complexity, forest floor and spicy oak. Still youthful at this stage but showing incredible purity and promise.
Tastes
Silky, opulent yet structured and long, with complexity plus from an array of smoky spices and succulent black cherry fruits imbued with subtle, savoury herbal tones. Impressively concentrated yet beautifully balanced with a very long mouth-watering finish. Seriously good Pinot that will develop gracefully for the next 7+ years and makes the perfect partner to gamey meats. Recommended serving temperature is 13-14 degrees.
