Description
Since 1912 the Osborne family have tended vineyards in the McLaren Vale. The current family winemaker/caretaker of this generational wine producer is Chester Osborne, who has been awarded Australian winemaker of the year on multiple occasions. For this Footbolt Shiraz… small batches are hand-harvested, with over a half of the harvest being traditionally foot trodden to gently extract fine tannins, the combined harvest is then crushed in a traditional basket press. Add to that, 12-18 months of ageing in a mix of quality French and American oak, and you have a very seriously made Shiraz!
Smells
Complex aromas of blackstrap liquorice, clove, nutmeg, dark berries, plums, and spicy oak.
Tastes
A luxurious feel in the mouth, as a velvety mix of dark fruits, toasty oak, spices, chocolate, savoury elements, and liquorice unravel. The tannins are very fine and caressing… a Shiraz with substance and elegance and a cocoa powder-like texture. Seriously delicious, it over-delivers on price and will be terrific drinking now through 2027. Serve with BBQed or roasted meats. For optimal drinking pleasure serve at 16-17 degrees.
