Elephant Hill is arguably New Zealand's #1 Syrah value, always rating among the finest in the country, and refreshingly accessible relative to its quality. 2019 shows all the gorgeous floral notes and peppery spicy characters, with a healthy dose of liquorice and dark fruits. Elephant Hill have outstanding vineyards on the Te Awanga Coast, Gimblett Gravels, and Bridge Pa Triangle, they have all bases covered, enabling them to make outstanding Syrah (it’s so with all their wines) like this. 2019 is the current release… 5-years old and beautifully knitted together, it’s drinking superbly.

Fragrant leather, alluring dark fruits, spice, sandalwood, violet and hints of fine white pepper.

A vibrant wave of flavour rolls over the palate releasing beautifully pure dark plum and berry fruit infused with mixed spice, supported by fine, grainy tannins… the finish goes on long after you’ve swallowed. At 5-years it’s hitting its straps and so drinkable now. However, it will peak circa 2027-2029. Made for roast beef or lamb with all the vegetable trimmings.
