Description
The flagship red of Thorn Clarke, the William Randell Shiraz has everything turned right up to 11. Lots of chocolatey American oak (40% new), as well as very low-yielding Barossa Shiraz vineyards (St Kitts and Milton Park), make for a seriously ripe and luxurious style of Shiraz. While this wine will cellar very well, it's so amazingly opulent and harmonious now there hardly seems much point waiting. A voluptuous treat to enjoy with hearty casseroles from now until 2030.
Smells
Full, sweet ripe plum and boysenberry complimented by warm woody vanilla/coconut aromas.
Tastes
A warm, velvety decadent palate, full of ripe black plum, prunes and blackberry balanced with black pepper, spiced chocolate and vanilla. Considerable fine-grain tannins give impressive structure to the rich, ripeness of the fruit. Again, the only match for a big, Barossa Shiraz is beef and/or game. For optimal drinking pleasure serve at 17-18 degrees.
