Description
The old vines at the heart of this wine are over 177 years old (planted in 1847) making them some of the oldest vines in the world. These low yielding vines produce highly concentrated, deep dark Shiraz fruit that is aged for at least 18 months in new and seasoned French oak (30% new) to temper its stunning power. The density and complexity of the fruit and sheer depth in this 2020 Turkey Flat Shiraz has seen James Halliday give in a whopping 98/100 in his Top 100 Wines of 2023. Its quality, power and sophistication are aligned with Australia’s prestige Shiraz selling for many hundreds of $$$ /bottle... it’s hard to set them apart from Turkey Flat. It will cellar 20-years with ease – it can be very much enjoyed in its youth with a couple of hours in the decanter first.
Smells
Concentrated and brooding with powerful blackberry, cassis, dark chocolate, coffee, spice and an exciting savoury complexity.
Tastes
Utterly plush on the palate with blackberry pie, rich cassis, dark chocolate, coffee and spice. The tannins are deeply layered, yet very fine and persistent - this is a wine of great power, stature, complexity and finesse... deserving of a quality decanting and immensely rewarding to those prepared to cellar it through the 10-20-year mark. Perfect for your favourite cuts of beef.
