Description

Sometimes you taste wines that capture your heart and pull at all your heartstrings and Giant Steps is one of those. We haven’t tasted their wines for a while but when Steve Flamsteed said he was coming to show the Fine Wine team his range, there was happiness in the air. A cult brand with a wonderful collection of mostly Single-Vineyard wines, with strong similarities to Burgundy. No wonder Steve was voted Gourmet Traveller Winemaker of the Year in 2016. Yarra Valley 2022 Chardonnay is a blend of vineyards portraying the wonderful elements of the Yarra, typically a large diurnal shift, warm days, and cool nights, where this large temperature shift is essential to aroma and flavour development, both of which are captivating. A stunning Chardonnay that speaks of the Yarra and of the class of Chardonnays prevalent in Australia right now…

Smells

lifted aromas of peach skin, stone fruit with added minerality, wet stones and hints of grapefruit and smoky notes.

Tastes

The palate is elegant and refined, a wine that is worlds apart from the Aussie style of the past. And thankfully, as this is a style that speaks of restraint and class. The palate focuses on fine fruit flavours, green and riper stone fruits, balanced by juicy acid and judicious oak handling. Superb drinking now and if served blind, Burgundy would spring to mind. Delicious drinking now through 2028 and will partner well with goat cheese or fresh seafood. The recommended serving temperature is 10-13 degrees.

We taste, rate & guarantee every wine we sell.
