Kumeu River Estate Chardonnay is “World Class” a complex and refined blend of their single vineyards – seriously underpriced (all KR Chardonnays are) Chardonnay on a global scale – it has trounced many expensive white Burgundies in blind tastings presided over by the world’s finest critics. The international wine world is acutely aware of how good and modestly priced Kumeu River’s Chardonnays are. Get in early and stock up if you can so you can enjoy it all year. Of course… it ages magnificently… this 2024 will do 10-years with ease if well stored. Styled like a Puligny Montrachet with amazing purity, a hint of luxury and seductive elegance.
Smells
Subtle grapefruit and florals over pure peach, nectarine, biscuit, hazelnut, and hints of toasty vanilla.
Tastes
Enthralling, vivacious and very concentrated. It deliciously fattens out to reveal a creamy core of mid-palate flavour before pirouetting to a long beguiling finish laced with pure stonefruit and delicious mealy, nutty complexities. A perfect array of flavour, complexity, balance, elegance. 2024 Kumeu River Estate Chardonnay is not just benchmarking Kiwi quality at its price... it also sets the bar globally.
