Description
Art Series is Leeuwin Estate's pinnacle Chardonnay with 2021 being the 45th vintage and a recent recipient of 98/100 from Huon Hooke, 98/100 Ray Jordan, 98/100 FWD, 97+/100 Erin Larkin, Wine Advocate (plus a few random 97s). A powerful range of ratings from people whose judgement and experience matter. Aged vines, possibly the world’s most consistent climate, uncompromising viticulture, and winemaking. A pedigree of ageing, this wine could well go beyond 30 years sealed under screwcap... providing you cellar it professionally. I recommend buying a few bottles of this hedonistic Chardonnay to savour over the next 10-30 years if well stored. Essentially this is Grand Cru White Burgundy (Batard-Montrachet in style) quality for circa 3 to 10 times less money… this is where your cellar Chardonnay $$$$’s should be spent.
Smells
Elegant floral aromas lead to peach, pear, flint, brioche, nougat, and subtle nuttiness… absolute seduction on the nose.
Tastes
Reminiscent of the greatest white Burgundies, very Batard-Montrachet as it explodes across the palate unleashing its powerful concentration and creamy layers of texture whilst retaining its poise. Artful in every sense of the word, it will magnify in complexity over 1-3 decades. Right now, lemon curd, fresh lime, white peach, and grapefruit skin are infused with subtle oak complexities of cinnamon, nutmeg, and hazelnuts… a window to its stunning tenure ahead in the bottle, as is its unerring length. Create your most hedonistic seafood, poultry or pork dish to do it justice."
