Description
We'd argue Elston's exemplary track record dating back to 1984 makes it a frontrunner for NZ’s most consistent flagship Chardonnay. Made from Mendoza clone fruit off the oldest estate Chardonnay vines, 2023 is delicious on release, but should ascend to a glorious peak 7-10 years from vintage.
Smells
A delightful perfume of warm lemon cream pie with brown baking spices, seductive hazelnut against sun-ripened stone fruits giving way to figs and nougat.
Tastes
Pure, elegant fruit flavours with peaches and limes persisting. It is the salivating, chalky texture that fires up your taste buds, maintaining a poise and elegance throughout the palate and finishing on a long, fine point that builds and builds. Well-structured, classical Chardonnay with great ageing potential, tuck a few bottles away until post 2030 to experience it at its zenith… you will be overly rewarded for your patience. Serve with your favourite white meals or a selection of creamy cheeses and for optimal drinking pleasure serve between 10-13 degrees.
