Chateau de Francs Les Cerisiers 2016
$31.99 - Rating f94
Château de Francs dates to the Middle Ages, originally a military stronghold under English rule from 1115 to 1453, date of the Battle of Castillon. It was in 1986 that Hubert de Boüard de Laforest, co-owner of Château Angélus and Dominique Hebrard, former co-owner of Château Cheval Blanc, decided to invest in this still little-known region. The vines are 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, planted on 37 hectares of clay-limestone soil, and the wine is aged between 12 to 14 months in 1/3 new French oak.
Our Tasting Panel 94/100 Review…
Redcurrant, blackcurrant, blackberry and notes of autumn leaves and cedar. Jam packed with red and dark berries on the palate, with classic cigar box. Fine-grained tannins and good acidity provide great mouthfeel. Enjoy now through to 2030+ with red meat dishes and firm cheese.
Closerie de Camensac Haut Medoc 2019
$34.99 - Rating f95
The second wine of Fifth Growth Médoc producer, Château Camensac. The property was purchased by the Merlaut family who own the more famous Ch. Gruaud-Larose and Ch. Chasse-Spleen and have raised the quality of this lesser known producer to new heights. The benefits of these accomplished owners are evident, the welcome surprise is the price – an affordable entry to this Grand Cru Classé estate. A fulsome blend of 87% Merlot and 13% Cabernet Sauvignon from the excellent 2019 vintage.
Our Tasting Panel 95/100 Review…
Lifted aromas of black cherries, cedar with hints of orange zest. The supple texture and fine tannins support a rich core of dark berries, black pepper, tobacco and spice. The cherry/dark berry fruits and vanilla persist on the beautiful, long finish. Drink Now or until 2035 with Duck à l'Orange.
Chateau Jacques Noir Saint-Emilion 2020
$35.99 - Rating f95 g1
Serious work has been carried out in the vineyard and in the winery to restore this historic property since 2001. Situated on the eastern side of the appellation, its terroir provides beautiful, elegant Merlot, the favoured right-bank varietal. It is said that this chateau was originally the den of an unmerciful warlord; he was named “Le Noir“– The Black – due to his black armour and his tendency to attack after sunset. By day he lived there with his men, soldiers or winemakers… and by night he plotted with his thieves.
Our Tasting Panel 95/100 Review…
Black, ripe plums with dark chocolate, mulberries, a sexy raspberry coulis note, baking spices and fresh fennel. this is a lusciously textural wines that speaks of ripeness yet a freshness, energy, drive and youthfulness. The dark berry fruits with earthy, cedar flavours excite and titillate the taste buds. Mouth coating tannins that will allow ageing for 8-10 years. If you must open, decant prior to serving.
