Description
Created in 1974, 100 years after the original Cristal, the Rose bottling is produced using the saignee method of bleeding off juice after cold maceration. Made from only Grand Cru vineyards in Ay, the blend for this 2014 Cristal Rose is 55% Pinot Noir and 45% Chardonnay, with less than a third of the wine matured in oak tuns. The Roederer house style dictates no malolactic fermentation and a 7 gram dosage to achieve a very winey style of Champagne. A spectacular and rare Champagne that deserves its premium price tag.
Smells
Enticing white flowers and sweet red berry fruit merge perfectly with blood orange, mint and a chalky minerality.
Tastes
A palate of profound intensity and assertiveness, white peach, nectarine and strawberries layered with floral notes and brioche.
