Poggio ai Ginepri – Bolgheri DOC – is a beautifully crafted Super Tuscan blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot, each fruit parcel vinified separately and gently extracted through soft pressing. The nose is broad and expressive, layered and profound, yet immediately engaging. The wine has impressive mouthfeel and concentration with intense structure balanced by a supple softness and a remarkably pure, lingering finish. A perfect introduction to Bolgheri—the terroir of Italy’s most iconic Super Tuscans like Sassacaia ($450/bottle) & Masseto ($2,000+/bottle). It captures the ripe, bold character of Cabernet led Bordeaux red while preserving the signature Italian interplay of tannin and acidity. Totally welcoming and delicious now, it also has the poise to age gracefully for through 2028-2032+.
Smells
A potpourri of aromas, raspberry, cherry, plum, red liquorice, sandalwood, underbrush, with an exotic array of brown spices.
Tastes
The palate structure is impressive from go to whoa. A supple, succulent tirade of pure ripe red and black fruit soothes the senses, deliciously awoken and brought to focus by the fine chalky tannins, giving energy, and pizzaz. Exciting on many levels while comforting at the same time. The perfect red to enjoy with pizza, roasted red meats and hearty stews. The recommended serving temperature is 16-18 degrees.
