Description

Step into the cellar with one of Clare Valley’s most revered names. The Jim Barry St Clare Cabernet Malbec 2017 is part of the winery’s exclusive Library Release Collection—a rare opportunity to taste a beautifully matured wine direct from the source. With its vintage charm, retro label, and thoughtful cellaring already done for you, this wine offers a nostalgic nod to tradition with the polish of modern winemaking. A blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Malbec, it showcases a more refined side of South Australian reds—less typical than the Shiraz-Cabernet blends the region is known for, but no less impressive. This wine proves, once again, that time adds value—and flavour.

Smells

Aromas of blackcurrant, graphite, cedar, and a hint of dried violets. Malbec lifts the bouquet with notes of dark plum and baking spices.

Tastes

Silky and seamless. The Cabernet provides structure and drive with fine tannins and cassis purity, while the Malbec adds a succulent dark fruit core and savoury spice. Subtle earthy complexity and tobacco leaf from time in bottle round out the mid-palate beautifully. The finish is long and composed with layers of fruit, spice, and mineral tension. Enjoy now for its evolved beauty or cellar another 3–5 years for further secondary development. It will pair perfect with lamb shoulder, aged cheddar, or mushroom risotto. The recommended serving temperature is 15-17 degrees.
