Jim Barry was Matthew Jukes’ Australian Winery of the year 2016-2017 and James Halliday’s Winery of the Year in 2020 coinciding with the 60th anniversary of Jim Barry Wines. The sheer consistency of iconic and affordable wines like Jim Barry Cover Drive Cabernet, as well as $250+ icons like Armagh that would have tipped the scales in their favour. And we are sure it won’t stop there. High-quality Coonawarra estate-grown fruit aged in French oak, the end-product in the glass massively over-delivers on its seriously reasonable asking price.
Smells
Blackberry and currant with savoury spice, anise, and a whiff of eucalypt.
Tastes
Very juicy and balanced entry onto the palate with ripe black fruits and savoury spice/herb contrast. True Cabernet flavours delivered in a surprisingly elegant body, surprising given the price of it. The fine tannin/acid balance will ensure that apart from being very drinkable on its own, it will pair well with a wide range of weightier dishes from chicken through to beef, or richer vegetarian options like eggplant or courgette. Enjoy now through 2028 and for optimal drinking pleasure serve at 17-18 degrees.
