Description

While their vineyards are largely based in Hawke’s Bay, the home of Leveret Estate is just outside Tauranga—an impressive property boasting 20 acres of landscaped grounds, a state-of-the-art winery, underground cellar, full bottling facilities, a 150-seat restaurant, and even a popular wedding and conference venue. This 2021 Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon blend uses premium fruit sourced from their vineyards in the Bridge Pa Triangle, one of Hawke’s Bay’s most renowned sub-regions. Comprising two-thirds Merlot and one-third Cabernet, the wine was aged for 12 months in French oak and is a benchmark release for this label. It’s fresh, fruity, and smooth, bursting with juicy berry, plum, and spice notes. The exceptional 2021 vintage shines through in this full-bodied and generous style, making it ideal for summer barbecues or fireside evenings. Awarded 93 points and a Top Value nod by Bob Campbell MW—this is premium Hawke’s Bay red at a weekday-friendly price.

Smells

Cedary oak, cassis, plum and dark chocolate.

Tastes

The palate is smooth and generous, delivering layers of juicy dark berry fruit, blackcurrant, and a touch of chocolate. Fine, supple tannins provide structure, while fresh acidity keeps the wine vibrant and balanced. A savoury edge and a whisper of oak linger on the long, polished finish. Perfectly enjoyable now, especially with grilled meats or hearty dishes, but will also reward short-term cellaring. The recommended serving temperature is 16-18 degrees.
