This latest 2022 Vitreous Merlot Cabernet blend is the “Final” offering (Circa 14 wines) of top-shelf quality Obsidian wines we have exclusively CLEARED on their behalf… everyone a “Sell Out”. A Winery CLEARANCE of this size & unquestionable quality at such Staggering prices… has happened just once in our 28-years – we’ve never witnessed it industry wide in that time. It’s been a treasure for our customers and a privilege to be appointed to do this. Originally planted in 1993, the 10ha of vineyards in Onetangi are all on graded slopes ranging from 10 to 35 degrees. Enjoying the stunning micro-climate of Waiheke, they create generous and sophisticated reds. This classic Bordeaux 5 grape blend is both powerful and alluring. Sensationally affordable Premium Waiheke Island red wine drinking. It’s crafted with 100% handpicked, low yield Estate fruit off their steeply sloping, free draining vineyards and aged in fine French oak. Drinking superbly at 3-years of age, it will peak around 2029 and hold through 2032. Delightful to share with family & friends – great for BBQs… perfect for functions & gifts.
Smells
Wonderful aromas of mocha, ripe blackcurrants, graphite, cedar, cinnamon and spice with toasty, vanilla notes in the background.
Tastes
Plush fruit with classical Bordeaux blend flavours, cassis, plum, coffee, and fresh tobacco leaf, with a delightful array of red and dark berries, including crunchy cranberries. Approachable now… with a few years bottle age, it will increasingly express true characteristics of the principal Merlot & Cabernet. Gaining savoury complexity due to age.
