Description

The First Flight 2022 Cabernet/Merlot is the entry-level offering from Squawking Magpie—but don’t let that fool you. This is a seriously tasty drop that punches well above its weight, delivering incredible value for everyday enjoyment. While 2022 had its fair share of challenges, the skilled team at Squawking Magpie have worked their magic to craft a deeply coloured red, brimming with bright, juicy fruit, impressive density, and a smooth, lingering finish. It’s the kind of wine that disappears quickly once opened—so don’t make the mistake of buying just one. Stock up now and make this your go-to red for casual dinners, BBQs, or a midweek glass you’ll look forward to.

Smells

classic aromas of blackcurrant, chalk dust, cedar, spice, and hints of tobacco.

Tastes

instantly the colour impresses, as does the plush fruit. A rich, smooth style with lots of fruit, dusty chalky tannins form a good framework around the fruit. The tannins give drinkability supported by dark berry and cassis flavours combined with added complexity, the result of herbal nuances consistent with ripe Cabernet Sauvignon. Smooth, supple, and the quintessential Bordeaux blend for every day. Serve with stews, soups and roasted red meats. Decant just prior to serving. The recommended serving temperature is 16-18 degrees.
