Named in honour of Dr Tom Cullity, the visionary who founded Margaret River’s first vineyard in 1967, this flagship wine represents the pinnacle of Vasse Felix. Sourced from the estate’s original vines of Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec, the 2021 release embodies both history and modern mastery under Virginia Willcock, Halliday Winemaker of the Year.
Smells
A very complete nose... Blackberry, mulberry, and cassis are woven together with lifted violet florals, cedar, graphite, and earthy undergrowth. Hints of dried bay leaf, dark chocolate, and subtle spice emerge with air, creating remarkable aromatic depth.
Tastes
The palate delivers intensity with restraint: pure black and red berry fruits glide across a frame of fine, lattice-like tannins, balanced by a seam of vibrant acidity. Notes of tobacco leaf, savoury herbs, and mineral graphite add gravitas, while the finish is extraordinarily long, unfolding with both power and finesse. Drinks so well now, but could easily age for another 10 -20 years plus. Enjoy with slow roasted lamb shoulder with rosemary and garlic or a wild mushroom risotto.
