Description

Esk Valley Artisanal wines tell the story of the Old-World craft and our New World terroir. And certainly, the legendary skills and passion of winemaker Gordon Russell are wrapped up in this exciting 94-96-96-96/100 rated by leading global critics including Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. A Malbec Merlot Cabernet blend from the deep stony soils of the Gimblett Gravels, the three parcels were separately fermented in open top concrete fermenters with traditional hand plunging. After further maceration on skins, they were pressed to 225l French Barriques (Perfect 30% new) for 20 months. The final blend was made immediately before bottling… and what a captivating, complex blend it is. This powerhouse Kiwi Red Bargain will live for 10-years… but is so in harmony you can open tonight. Whenever you drink it – your expectations will be well exceeded… you may well think you’ve drunk reds double the price that did not measure up to Artisanal.

Smells

Heady aromas of dark plums, black currants, cedar, fresh tobacco leaves, pencil lead, black pepper plus an exotic array of dark spices.

Tastes

Plush fruit saturates the tastes buds with smooth, mouth coating tannins hugging your cheeks. The generous, dark fruited palate is balanced by juicy acidity lifting the warm, rich flavours to a long. moreishly fresh finish. Excellent drinking now and through 2025-2035, perfect with all your favourite BBQ meats and aged cheddar.

Would strongly recommend this interesting malbec dominant blend. I have the '21 vintage and went large on the '22. Exceptional value but wish it was more expensive then it wouldn't fit into my " drinker" category and last longer in my cellar.
