Description
BREAKING NEWS... this iconic Esk Valley Bordeaux Right Bank styled Merlot Cabernet Malbec Red blend has gone Gold Medal at NZ International Wine Show + Gold Medal at NZ’s Aotearoa National Wine Awards. It is inline to win Champion Trophy at both shows... those results are a month away and frankly we can’t wait that long to share this exciting news with you! Post the transition from Villa Maria to Indevin... Esk valley continues to be a beacon of quality and extreme value! This 2024 Gimblett Gravel’s blend personifies that. 100% Gimblett Gravel’s fruit... this Merlot-Cabernet-Malbec is bursting at the seams with dark, ripe, impressively concentrated fruit perfectly complimented by caressing French oak and a freshness on the finish that brings life to this utterly delicious red wine. It’s a testament to the exceptional 2024 vintage and a quality statement by the Esk Valley winemaking team. It will age nicely through 2030+... but why wait when it’s so delicious in its youth and so fabulously affordable for such quality!
Smells
Striking density of black fruit with fine cedary oak... plum, blackberry, violets, graphite and mocha aromas prominent.
Tastes
Beautifully rich and luscious throughout the moreish palate, layered with dense berry & plum fruits coalescing with ripe silky tannin and fine fresh acidity. Subtle cedary oak, mocha and spice/herb complexities simply add to its charm. The fruit weight and x-factor are exceptional and uncommonly excellent for a circa $20 red wine. Fire up the BBQ and find a tasty cut of red meat to compliment this superb red. The recommended serving temperature is 16-18 degrees.
We taste, rate & guarantee every wine we sell.
