Description

Kokoro, a name with profound significance, was chosen to honour Terry Dunleavy, the patriarch of Te Motu's founding family. In Māori, Kokoro means “the patriarch,” while in Japanese, it translates to “the heart of things,” perfectly encapsulating the wine’s essence and its connection to both family and legacy. This Merlot-dominant blend, complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, and Syrah, is crafted from meticulously hand-harvested, low-yielding vines. Made in a forward style to emphasize fruit ripeness and a velvety texture, Kokoro is approachable in its youth yet possesses the structure and pedigree to evolve gracefully over time. Released 20 months after the vintage, it is a testament to Te Motu’s commitment to crafting wines of both immediacy and enduring appeal.

Smells

one smell of the glass and you are transported to a comfy couch by the fire with a big, rich wine in hand delivering all you could ask for. Dark brooding fruits, blackberries, plums, blackcurrants with mocha, green coffee beans, leather and brown spices.

Tastes

warm, ripe flavours of coffee grinds, cassis, mulberries and chocolate compliment the rich, rounded palate, velvety tannins and salivating acidity giving length and drive. Drink now through 2028, serve with slow cooked lamb or beef. The recommended serving temperature is 16-18 degrees.
